Do wet leaves stick to Alu-Rex products?

Only temporarily. Alu-Rex products feature a smooth perforated surface. Similar to landing on the hood of your car, leaves and debris that land on the surface of Alu-Rex products may stick temporarily, but then they dry quickly in the sun.

However, unlike the hood of your car, the surface beneath the wet leaves on your eavestrough is perforated, which causes them to dry faster!

Dry leaves and debris are easily blown away by the wind:

  • A 10 km/h wind will effectively remove wet leaves, along with approximately 100 pine needles per linear foot
  • A 37 km/h wind will remove approximately one inch (2.5 cm) of pine needles per linear foot.

How well do Alu-Rex products stand up to snow?

Alu-Rex products significantly reduce the weight of snow on your eavestroughs. The eavestroughs remain empty, so the weight of snow that they have to support is limited to the snow that accumulates on top of the Alu-Rex products. In addition, the eavestroughs remain fully functional, allowing the water from the melting snow and ice to drain away freely.

Without Alu-Rex products, eavestroughs that are already clogged with leaves and debris fill up with snow and ice, which keeps them from doing their job and draining water away in the spring. In addition, they have to bear more weight.

Can ice form on the Gutter Clean System or T-Rex® continuous hangerᴹᶜ?

No. Water continuously drains into the downspout, because nothing blocks it from draining – not even debris or snow. With Alu-Rex products and Alu-Perf technology, your eavestroughs work all year round.

Alu-Rex products do not cause the formation of ice. If ice forms on the edge of the roof, we recommend that you verify whether your attic space is properly ventilated and insulated.

What is the continuous hanger?


Can the installation of Alu-Rex products cause water to seep into my roof?

No. Alu-Rex products do not cause water seepage. The installation does not involve the lifting of shingles, and no nails are driven into the roof.

Beware of similar products that require the lifting of shingles. These products can lead to water seepage. In time, the asphalt shingles dry out and become brittle. It is always risky to lift shingles in order to nail, screw or install eavestrough protection systems.

It is important to note that manufacturers’ warranty on asphalt shingles are voided if the shingles are lifted, detached or modified.

What is the maximum weight that my eavestrough can support when installed with T-Rex® continuous hangerᴹᶜ?

The maximum weight that your eavestrough can support with T-Rex® is 250 lbs. per linear foot (373 kg per linear metre), which is 50% stronger than with nails or hangers.

What is the advantage of using T-Rex® continuous hangerᴹᶜ if there are no trees near my home?

If there are no trees near your home, it may seem unnecessary to use the T-Rex® continuous eavestrough fastening system. However, T-Rex's main features are its resistance, strength, durability and quality.

With T-Rex®, your eavestroughs will be stronger and more durable than any others. New trees may grow, but your eavestroughs will still be in perfect condition after 25, 30 or even 40 years!

People who buy the T-Rex® system want the best for their eavestroughs, just as they do for their doors and windows, and the other components of their home.

Why is the T-Rex® continuous fastening system better than nails, screws and hangers?

Nails, screws and hangers provide a certain degree of strength, but only over a few inches to either side of them on the front of the eavestrough.

Therefore, there are weak spots between the nails/screws/hangers. T-Rex® provides your eavestrough with equal strength along the entire length. There are no weak spots.

What's the difference between the Alu-Rex Gutter Clean System® and Alu-Rex T-Rex® continuous hangerᴹᶜ products?

The Gutter Clean System® is an eavestrough protection system that prevents leaves and debris from getting into and clogging existing eavestroughs. It is simply installed on top of your home's existing eavestroughs.

T-Rex® is a continuous fastening system for new eavestroughs that fastens the eavestroughs to your home very securely, making them 50% stronger than traditional systems.

Both products use the same Alu-Perf technology, which prevents leaves and debris from accumulating in your eavestroughs.

Do Alu-Rex products require maintenance?

The Gutter Clean System® and T-Rex® are among the most efficient eavestrough protection systems on the market today. In the vast majority of cases, normal debris is removed by a light breeze.

In areas beneath the roof or under shallow overhangs on sloped roofs, debris may build up in locations where the wind cannot reach it. We recommend that you clean out these areas occasionally in order to maintain the effectiveness of your Alu-Rex products.

How does water get into the eavestrough? There aren't enough holes and they are too small.

The exclusive Alu-Perf technology is the result of extensive research and development. The product has 489 perforations every 19 inches (48 cm). These perforations allow water to drain at the same rate as a 2 in. x 3 in. (5 cm x 7.5 cm) downspout. Rigorous testing carried out by an independent certification agency has proven that Alu-Rex products can drain more than 32.9 in. (836 mm) of water per hour over a length of 20 feet (6 m). The 44,000,000 linear feet (13,411,200 metres) of Alu-Rex products installed around the world speak volumes.

Note: The greatest volume of rainfall ever recorded anywhere in the world was 12 in. (305 mm) of water in one hour (Holt, MO, 1947). In comparison, the 1996 Saguenay Flood in Quebec was triggered by 11 in. (275 mm) of rain falling over three days. Alu-Rex products would have been able to handle all of that rain in only one hour. In fact, they could have handled three times that volume!

Overflow is usually caused by the eavestroughs themselves (not wide enough or deep enough for the roof surface) or by the downspouts (insufficient number for the roof surface). It is important to ensure there are enough downspouts to avoid overflows. For this purpose, one downspout is sufficient to drain the equivalent of a 600 sq. ft. (56 m2) of roof surface.

In short, if you don't have overflow problems during heavy rainfalls with your current eavestroughs, the Gutter Clean System® and T-Rex® will not cause these types of problems.

Can Alu-Rex products withstand heavy water flow?

Even if all of the perforations are covered (which never happens, because the wind blows the away leaves and debris), Alu-Rex products drain up to three times the volume of water produced by the worst storms.

How? Wet leaves remain permeable, and water can get between the leaves, and even through them, and drain into the eavestrough. The water always finds its way into the holes.

In addition, the exclusive design of Alu-Rex products features a basin that is approximately 0.4 in. (1 cm) deep. Laboratory and field testing has proven that this is the proper depth for catch the highest volume of water without preventing the wind from doing its job of blowing away leaves, pine needles and debris from the surface.

Beware of products that are similar to Alu-Rex but completely flat. The absence of a basin can lead to overflows.

Would metal grills or plastic mesh be sufficient for my home?

It is tempting to believe that a simple plastic mesh that sells for $4 for a 20-foot (6.1 metre) roll can do the job, but that just isn't the case.

The openings in these products are much too large. Debris can get inside, and leaves can get stuck, which can clog the eavestroughs and allow for the growth of vegetation.

In addition, these products are not rigid, which means that they bend under snow and ice.

In short, if you use these products, you will still have to climb a ladder periodically in order to clear out your eavestroughs.
